Leadership Under Pressure explores how sustained pressure changes leadership behaviour, decision-making and culture long before performance declines.

Why
Leadership
Drifts

Leadership Drift is an organisational phenomenon in which sustained pressure progressively alters leadership behaviour, reshaping relationships, organisational culture and performance—often long before traditional indicators reveal a problem.

Most leadership failures do not begin with incompetence, misconduct or poor intent. They begin with subtle behavioural changes that emerge under sustained pressure. This platform exists to explore, explain and address those changes before they become culture.

The Hidden Risk Most Organisations Don't Measure

Organisations measure performance.

They measure engagement.

They measure turnover.

They measure compliance.

Yet many overlook one of the earliest indicators of organisational decline:

changes in leadership behaviour.

Under sustained pressure, leaders often become More reactive, More transactional and less reflective without recognising the shift themselves.

This phenomenon
is known as
Leadership Drift.

The Leadership Drift Framework

Most organisations notice Leadership Drift when it appears in culture or performance.

My work focuses on helping leaders recognise the earlier stages—when behavioural change is still subtle, intervention is still possible, and healthier outcomes can still be shaped.

Pressure rarely changes organisations directly.

It changes leaders first.

Leadership Drift Model

About Leadership Drift

Leadership Drift explores what happens to leadership when pressure is sustained for too long.

In demanding environments, capable leaders do not usually change overnight. The shift is often gradual. Decision-making narrows. Communication becomes more transactional. Patience reduces. Short-term pressures begin to outweigh longer-term judgment. Over time, those behavioural changes can influence culture, trust and organisational performance.

The work behind Leadership Drift examines the space between pressure and visible organisational decline — the period where leadership behaviour may already be changing, but the consequences have not yet become obvious.

Its central premise is simple:

Culture follows behaviour, and behaviour drifts under pressure.

Leadership Drift provides a practical way to recognise those changes earlier, understand what may be driving them, and create the conditions for leaders and organisations to respond before temporary behaviours become embedded ways of working.

The ideas draw on more than two decades of executive leadership experience across healthcare, aged care, community services and commercial operations, together with ongoing writing and research into leadership behaviour, organisational culture and performance under pressure.
